Cat Bank (2014). Description + Review

The town of Cut Bank belongs to hundreds of those places where nothing ever happens. This is a quiet, peaceful place, but it is impossible to achieve any success here, and the prospects for the younger generation here are minimal. The residents of the town do not make plans for the future, except that only Duen McLaren, an employee of an auto repair shop, thinks about something higher and more significant. He thinks he's outgrown this place.<br />
In his school days, he played on the football team and then it was his finest hour. At that time, life was very bright and interesting for him, but over time, the surrounding realities began to plunge him into the abyss of despair. Working in a local workshop seems boring to him, since there are no serious events here. To break out of this routine for him was a serious act, which he decided on for quite a long time. <br />
During the filming of an amateur video that he was shooting with his girlfriend, he managed to film the murder. It was the first murder in this city, so the event stirred up the public. A substantial reward is offered for information about the crime, but suddenly the city turned out to be full of the close attention of many people. Influential personalities are trying to bribe the police, some people are being hunted and other things are being done that were previously completely unusual for residents.<br />

Stylistically, the painting strongly resembles the creation of the Coen brothers, but Meth Shekman, who is not so well known to the audience, had a hand in this masterpiece. In many ways, everything happened thanks to the script, as it offers us an extraordinary story that develops in a small town whose population does not exceed three thousand people. A well-thought-out scam of influential people is being planned here, which did not go quite well, since several witnesses accidentally turned up.<br />
For fans of the criminal genre with obvious ironic comedy inserts, the film will be another worthy addition to the collection. The picture is worth watching, at least because of its cast. What is John Malkovich worth in the role of a policeman, not to mention Thornton and the rising star Hemsworth. All the actors are clearly in their places and the cast is attractive, both for the younger generation and for experienced moviegoers.<br />
The dialogues in the movie turned out to be really funny and cynical, as in the classics of the genre. They clearly do not reach the black comedy, but they skillfully complement all the irony of what is happening. Such scenes with serious faces and similar text leave an indelible impression. Of course, this cannot be called the best film of the genre, but they do not stoop to passing representatives of this style here.<br />
The only weak point, which still somewhat spoils the viewing experience, is the ending. Almost the whole film is pumping up the atmosphere, so at the end you expect something extraordinary and enchanting, but in the end the expectations are not quite justified. Although those who have not watched, it will be quite interesting to find out how it all ends.<br />
